Looper - R - Review

Starring - Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt

This movie unlike other movies I actually bought it before I watched it. I had a friend say it was really good and it was in a used bin so I figured why not? Good thing he said something this movie is excellent. Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt make an awesome pairing and for once a film that was about time travel and didn’t have over the top CGI.

The Good

The cinematography in this movie was excellent. It was a movie that instead of using over done CGI or just using way more computers then necessary. They utilized an under used tool the camera and it was nice to see. Simple editing and camera shots maybe some of the simplest scenes more effective. Also the lack of dialogue in the beginning excellent beginning to the movie it shows you a scene you immediately start asking questions in your head and then your in and the answers start coming. The narration that comes in and out that,s being done by the characters is enough to let you know what there thinking and keep it moving forward.

The Bad

Well once again I guess I have no use for this section.

The Conclusion

Go see it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea still its a well put together movie and keeps moving through the story. I don’t necessarily say you should just buy this then hope you like it like I did but rent it, watch it online, find away to at least give it a chance.

Not much of a fan of Superman but this trailer and the first one give me chills every time I watch it so definitely have to go see it this year.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - R - Review

Starring - Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Christopher Plummer

I know my body reviewed this but since I just watched this I figured why not review it again. Once again a movie that I waited to long to see before watching it. Not to get confused with the other versions that are out there this is the US version of the film. At least I think don’t quote me on that. Enjoyed this movie although few things bothered me.

The Good

I enjoyed the story so far. Was nice to see Daniel Craig in a non Bond roll and acting as a journalist and not the super spy. Rooney Mara played an interesting character who oddly very intriguing and well naked most of the film so take your pick as to what about her character was likable. The movie had a good flow except for a few parts, which Ill get to in a second. Overall not bad.

The Bad

It’s long… really long. Don’t get me wrong I’ve watched longer and I enjoyed it, but there was a few moments where I was like O ok thats the end.. No okay well maybe…. no well ok This is the end. That went on for quite some time towards the end of the film. Did I enjoy some of the scenes in the end? Yes. Did I feel that some of them were needed? No. For me this made the end of the movie drag on for me. Also ended on a bit of cliffhanger which is understandable being that it is the first within a trilogy but the second one isn’t until 2014 maybe. Just doesn’t feel as complete of a film and one that you have to watch the sequel to finish the first movie to move on. Well at least that’s what my feeling was at the end.

The Conclusion

Look hate to say it, but definitely more of a movie for guys the girls. Not that the story would be interesting to woman but prepare yourself for some nudity and some.. well.. just out there stuff. Although some chicks might dig her put a dude in his place. So maybe there might be some parts in there for girls to enjoy.. o and shirtless Daniel Craig. Anyways find this movie watch it. Would not play well at a party but I guess you could always try.

Silver Linings Playbook - R - Review

Starring - Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro

So I’ll be honest this movie was not on my radar at all as one that I wanted to see. Saw that it had received some nominations but didn’t spark much interest to look into. Week or two later my friends like lets go. Personally I wanted to see gangster squad but I figure why not she says its good. What do you know its great. Movie was your typical romance flick (you’ll see) but it was different enough that I was into it.

The Good

The movie had a good flow to it Bradley Cooper is likable in that off his rocker kind of a way and Jennifer Lawrence you fall for her character during this film as much as Cooper’s character does. I can’t go to far with out mentioned Robert De Niro. Well done for this guy. I don’t know what it is, but De Niro as a family man with a few quirks I’ll watch it. So overall well written enjoyed the story and the characters plus the fact that I’m an Eagles fan enjoyed it.

The Bad

Never thought I’d say this but not enough Chris Tucker. He pops in and out throughout the film and you love his character so maybe little bit more Tucker.. just a smidge. Once again not much bad… moving on.

The Conclusion

This movie is one that I watched it didn’t think much of it but the following day it did cross my mind and part of me did want to go see it again. Girls (Guys Also) will love Bradley Cooper and Guys (Girls not to be left out) will want Jennifer Lawrence also. This film is a safe couple flick for a date night movie. That is if you can trust a guy with no girlfriend on safe movie. Anyways go see it in a theater near you.

Ya know I would of never gotten to a thought like that. Its an interesting thought but one I’d want to avoid considering how much I’ve enjoy Daniel Craig as Bond. My thoughts on it nothing against the writers but I just don’t think there that clever (not that I could do better) and considering he signed on for 2 more I don’t think that’s where there going. Not that I’d be disappointed if that’s where it went and your thoughts on it were correct.  

Skyfall - PG13 - Review

This is the latest installment to the James Bond series and what a beautiful installment it was. Daniel Craig returns to the role of James Bond and I don’t know about you but he is turning into my favorite actor for Bond. Skyfall was one of my favorites for 2012 for a few reasons. 

The Good

This film is absolutely gorgeous. It was nice to see some nominations for cinematography. Personally I’d really love to see this pick up a win. Story was very interesting. Javier Bardem plays an excellent villain and for once it was a villain that doesn’t completely fall into one stereotype. The integration of the history of bond and having this clash between the new ways of doing things and the old way of doing things was great to see. The introducing of new and old characters. I’m going to stop there because if I said more it spoil major parts of the movies.

The Bad

Not that I’m against seeing it or have a problem with it but it is over 2 hours long. That doesn’t bother me but for some that might be a deal breaker. Well I can’t think of much of anything else and why be negative… moving on.

The Conclusion

With 50 years of Bond just being passed this was an excellent addition to the Bond films and definitely, at least in my mind, did the hype justice. Few words of warning. As I said before very long movie, but does have a good flow so it may not bother you. Probably not be a couples movie although if you do find some one willing to go with there a keeper. Skyfall releases on February 18th on DVD/Blu-ray and is on my list to pick up the day it comes out.

Indie Game The Movie - NR - Review

Was searching around for a documentary to watch before I went to bed maybe to fall a sleep to. Found this movie on Netflix and decided it might be something I would enjoy and I definitely did. I started this movie and was glued to the film until the end. Was an interesting look at what goes on in the world of indie gaming that I don’t think any of us are truly aware of other then the people making them. 

The Good

The style in which the documentary was interesting and kept me into the movie. The jumping around between the multiple game stories and getting different perspectives from them at different moments in the process was interesting to see. I’m not one for playing Indie arcade games but this was definitely a movie that after I watched it I was like I’d like play that.. and that.. oh has that come out yet. I was that into it. 

The Bad

Not much I can think of I was definitely was into this film.

The Conclusion

Should be on your list to watch. It’s on Netflix currently (not a plug). So easy to find. Some people will enjoy this more than others but if you love anything about gaming and that world this will definitely be a movie you will enjoy.

Dark Knight Rises - PG13 - Review

Usually here I have a long speech about when and why I saw it so long after the movie came out. This one went to a dark knight marathon and then midnight release opening night at the theater. Was it worth it… YES!

The Good

Everything except Gotham looked a bit to much like Pittsburgh.

The Bad

The ending annoyed me just a little I can’t explain it just watch it and you’ll understand and they don’t exactly mention what happened to the Joker so a little annoyed about that.

The Conclusion

Quit reading this and go see it already and if you have already whats stopping you from second and third helpings of the Dark Knight.

Thor - PG13 - Review

This was one that I just recently watched even though its been out for over the year. For some reason that I can’t remember I just never went out and saw this movie. Seeing as it looks like it came out right around when finals were I’m going to guess I was going to go and never had time and then forgot about it. That is until the Avengers came out and I decided that it might be one to watch. Having said that this was a lot better then I was expecting for whatever reasons my hopes weren’t exactly high on this one but it wasn’t bad.

The Good

Unlike Captain America this one felt like it was planned out and that the story was, although not written completely separate, it wasn’t rushed. It felt like more of an individual movie not one that needed to be rushed out before The Avengers comes out. Story although not majorly deep in detail was better then most super hero films. This movie for the most part is based in a place that doesn’t exist. The backgrounds and the cgi in this were very well done from what I saw at least.

The Bad

Although I said the story was better I still would of liked to have seen a little more character development of certain characters. Not that you can’t figure out there back story still would of liked just a little more.

The Conclusion

If you loved the Avengers and love comic book movies make put this on your list to watch it just hit Netflix so its out there in the world to see. If your in love with either Chris Hemsworth or Natalie Portman neither of which I’d blame you for. Go out and see this movie its a good weekend movie to watch when you can’t find anything else to watch.

Nip/Tuck - TV MA - Review

This was an interesting watch. I originally clicked on to a rerun that was running on logo and I was hooked in some odd way. So I noticed that it was on Netflix and I said why not. This was one that I had a very love hate relationship with. If I would of watched this show when it originally came out I’m not sure that I would of kept up with the show as did with watching all at once. Unlike other shows this was also a show that I didn’t have to immediately continue watching the next day it was very easy to step away from the show. There was moments where I’d be hooked and was into the story and in one episode I was taken out of the show again and that became one of the things that annoyed me about the show.

The Good

Although there was a story line going on throughout this entire show run. The nice thing about this show was you could watch individual episodes and you can enjoy them. The characters were shallow but developed in a weird sort of way in other words there wasn’t a lot to some of the characters but what they did have was well developed. This show also tackled certain stereotypes and certain perceptions that people have about plastic surgery and about certain group of people in general.

The Bad

Some of the main antagonists in this show were just irritating. which I guess to some extent you want but not so much that it gets to a point where your like okay this again. The 2 main characters in this show are doctors supposedly people with educations and yet season after season episode after episode there tricked into getting into in situations that they could die. You would think towards the end they would install a camera or hire a better security guard, something. They also never really changed up what the characters dealt with season to season it was always the same people same issues. The antagonists were the same thing, same idea, just a different actor/actress and it starts to get a point towards the end where its like come on this again. Also there were moments in this show especially early on where I was like this show is 30 min of soft core porn scenes and 12 min if that of story. It just got old very quick and I think based on how the show went along others did also.

The Conclusion

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed this show. Although as I said in the beginning there were times where I was like I hate this show and then the next episode I was like this is brilliant well done. If your looking for something to kill time and watch. Watch an episode or 2 see what you think. If you aren’t one who enjoys either blood, sex, sex, booze, and maybe the occasional plot moving scene then this might not be for you.
