Looper - R - Review
Starring - Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt
This movie unlike other movies I actually bought it before I watched it. I had a friend say it was really good and it was in a used bin so I figured why not? Good thing he said something this movie is excellent. Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt make an awesome pairing and for once a film that was about time travel and didn’t have over the top CGI.
The cinematography in this movie was excellent. It was a movie that instead of using over done CGI or just using way more computers then necessary. They utilized an under used tool the camera and it was nice to see. Simple editing and camera shots maybe some of the simplest scenes more effective. Also the lack of dialogue in the beginning excellent beginning to the movie it shows you a scene you immediately start asking questions in your head and then your in and the answers start coming. The narration that comes in and out that,s being done by the characters is enough to let you know what there thinking and keep it moving forward.
Well once again I guess I have no use for this section.
Go see it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea still its a well put together movie and keeps moving through the story. I don’t necessarily say you should just buy this then hope you like it like I did but rent it, watch it online, find away to at least give it a chance.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - R - Review
Starring - Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Christopher Plummer
I know my body reviewed this but since I just watched this I figured why not review it again. Once again a movie that I waited to long to see before watching it. Not to get confused with the other versions that are out there this is the US version of the film. At least I think don’t quote me on that. Enjoyed this movie although few things bothered me.
I enjoyed the story so far. Was nice to see Daniel Craig in a non Bond roll and acting as a journalist and not the super spy. Rooney Mara played an interesting character who oddly very intriguing and well naked most of the film so take your pick as to what about her character was likable. The movie had a good flow except for a few parts, which Ill get to in a second. Overall not bad.
It’s long… really long. Don’t get me wrong I’ve watched longer and I enjoyed it, but there was a few moments where I was like O ok thats the end.. No okay well maybe…. no well ok This is the end. That went on for quite some time towards the end of the film. Did I enjoy some of the scenes in the end? Yes. Did I feel that some of them were needed? No. For me this made the end of the movie drag on for me. Also ended on a bit of cliffhanger which is understandable being that it is the first within a trilogy but the second one isn’t until 2014 maybe. Just doesn’t feel as complete of a film and one that you have to watch the sequel to finish the first movie to move on. Well at least that’s what my feeling was at the end.
Look hate to say it, but definitely more of a movie for guys the girls. Not that the story would be interesting to woman but prepare yourself for some nudity and some.. well.. just out there stuff. Although some chicks might dig her put a dude in his place. So maybe there might be some parts in there for girls to enjoy.. o and shirtless Daniel Craig. Anyways find this movie watch it. Would not play well at a party but I guess you could always try.

Skyfall - PG13 - Review
This is the latest installment to the James Bond series and what a beautiful installment it was. Daniel Craig returns to the role of James Bond and I don’t know about you but he is turning into my favorite actor for Bond. Skyfall was one of my favorites for 2012 for a few reasons.
This film is absolutely gorgeous. It was nice to see some nominations for cinematography. Personally I’d really love to see this pick up a win. Story was very interesting. Javier Bardem plays an excellent villain and for once it was a villain that doesn’t completely fall into one stereotype. The integration of the history of bond and having this clash between the new ways of doing things and the old way of doing things was great to see. The introducing of new and old characters. I’m going to stop there because if I said more it spoil major parts of the movies.
Not that I’m against seeing it or have a problem with it but it is over 2 hours long. That doesn’t bother me but for some that might be a deal breaker. Well I can’t think of much of anything else and why be negative… moving on.
With 50 years of Bond just being passed this was an excellent addition to the Bond films and definitely, at least in my mind, did the hype justice. Few words of warning. As I said before very long movie, but does have a good flow so it may not bother you. Probably not be a couples movie although if you do find some one willing to go with there a keeper. Skyfall releases on February 18th on DVD/Blu-ray and is on my list to pick up the day it comes out.

Indie Game The Movie - NR - Review
Was searching around for a documentary to watch before I went to bed maybe to fall a sleep to. Found this movie on Netflix and decided it might be something I would enjoy and I definitely did. I started this movie and was glued to the film until the end. Was an interesting look at what goes on in the world of indie gaming that I don’t think any of us are truly aware of other then the people making them.
The style in which the documentary was interesting and kept me into the movie. The jumping around between the multiple game stories and getting different perspectives from them at different moments in the process was interesting to see. I’m not one for playing Indie arcade games but this was definitely a movie that after I watched it I was like I’d like play that.. and that.. oh has that come out yet. I was that into it.
Not much I can think of I was definitely was into this film.
Should be on your list to watch. It’s on Netflix currently (not a plug). So easy to find. Some people will enjoy this more than others but if you love anything about gaming and that world this will definitely be a movie you will enjoy.

Thor - PG13 - Review
This was one that I just recently watched even though its been out for over the year. For some reason that I can’t remember I just never went out and saw this movie. Seeing as it looks like it came out right around when finals were I’m going to guess I was going to go and never had time and then forgot about it. That is until the Avengers came out and I decided that it might be one to watch. Having said that this was a lot better then I was expecting for whatever reasons my hopes weren’t exactly high on this one but it wasn’t bad.
Unlike Captain America this one felt like it was planned out and that the story was, although not written completely separate, it wasn’t rushed. It felt like more of an individual movie not one that needed to be rushed out before The Avengers comes out. Story although not majorly deep in detail was better then most super hero films. This movie for the most part is based in a place that doesn’t exist. The backgrounds and the cgi in this were very well done from what I saw at least.
Although I said the story was better I still would of liked to have seen a little more character development of certain characters. Not that you can’t figure out there back story still would of liked just a little more.
If you loved the Avengers and love comic book movies make put this on your list to watch it just hit Netflix so its out there in the world to see. If your in love with either Chris Hemsworth or Natalie Portman neither of which I’d blame you for. Go out and see this movie its a good weekend movie to watch when you can’t find anything else to watch.

Everything Must Go - R - Review
This was a movie that although it had Will Ferrell attached to it I feel it floated underneath every ones radar and I think there’s a reason for that. This wasn’t a normal film for Ferrell he went in a more serious direction and I don’t think it worked. Idea of the movie Ferrell plays an alcoholic who loses his job and then over the course of a week on his lawn and decides he needs to move on by the end of the movie.
Christopher Jordan Wallace who plays the role as the kid who kind of walks Ferrell through his trying to move on and in doing so did more for the movie then Ferrell did. The idea of the movie was different although I think they could of done the story more justice having said that.
I know that Ferrell tried to play it serious but at the same time put in the comedy to give you the laughs and it just didn’t work. Also for someone that was an alcoholic he seemed to have it together more then most and I just couldn’t believe that his character was that bad off and that he had that many issues just didn’t come off that way. So I think this movie would of benefited one from some character development and well actually that’s it really.
It’s an okay movie, not for all, even if your a fan of Will Ferrell. I think you’ll be disappointed by this movie because it isn’t his normal role. I’d give credit to him for trying to something different and for a lack of a better word independent. Although I don’t think it was a very good jump into that world and didn’t work out well for him.

Dark Shadows - PG13 - Review
Formerly a TV series now a movie. Of course when you want something dark weird and kind of funny you call in Tim Burton and Johnny Depp because apparently they are the only ones that are willing to go there. This movie for me was neither good nor was it really bad. I can’t tell you exactly what this movie was for me but it was a movie I guess.
The movie looked visually interesting partly because that is Burton’s thing. Not the most interesting story in the world but it was a story I guess.
Found the movie to be slow in some parts. I tried to pay attention and to get into the movie and all though I did at times there was other times where I checked out. In fact this is one or is the first movie that I almost fell a sleep and might of dosed off during the film. So not the most action filled movie either. Not one that kept me pumped with the dialogue either so.
It’s another Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie don’t get me wrong always a fan of Depp and Burton but at the moment I’m bored with it. I think that’s why for me the movie wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. I might of just been bored by it not sure either way. If you are a fan of the Burton and Depp combo then here’s another one for you. I imagine if you loved the TV series you might enjoy this also. Other then that it’s really just a time waster and a boring one at that.

The Avengers - PG13 - Review
Arguably one of the most anticipated films of the summer could of gone in a few ways either really good or really bad. luckily pure awesomeness. This movie had it all. Story all though not hugely in depth still there was one. Action for the all the action lovers out there and what felt like respect to what the actual comic book characters were all about and how they would work with each other.
I’ve heard complaints about the story and how this is a mindless movie. First of all do us all a favor shut up and go watch that movie again. This movie not only had a story of its own but manged to intertwine story lines from Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America and also create a launching pad for the other heroes in the film. They managed to do all that in one movie come on. Over course those people will probably be the same people to tell me Battleship and the new GI Joe movies will be amazing so moving on. This is one of the first movies in a long time that I’ve actually gone back and watched it again and planning on going back for thirds. Its that re-watchable and I enjoy it every time.
This movie does have a few points at which it is slow. It’s not to slow and its almost needed from with the non stop action sections of the film. Although I can see where this could get boring for some if you don’t absolutely love comics.
I will say this about this film you don’t have to see all the other comic book movies before it to enjoy it although it helps. Looking at the box office totals for this movie it doesn’t look like I have to convince to many of you to go to this movie but just go take someone with you its fun movie.

The Lincoln Lawyer - R - Review
This movie was one of those one’s that surprised me a little bit. It was one that I had planned on seeing when it came out and just never got to it. It finally hit Netflix’s and I decided that I’d watch it and it wasn’t bad. I thoroughly enjoyed this one actually. Stars Matthew McConaughey as somewhat of a hot shot lawyer who’s a criminal defense lawyer. So not very liked by anyone always seen as putting criminals back on the street. The movie kind of focuses in on this time and his latest case where he gets more then he bargains for.
The story was pretty good. They did put a twist on the end but it wasn’t so much that it was annoying and it just didn’t fit but enough of one that you had that no way moment so that was good. Say what you want about Matthew McConaughey he played the role excellently. Although he kind of plays this somewhat hot shot lawyer and he seems on the side of the criminal you grow to like his character anyway and come to find that he’s an alright guy.
There were moments where I wish they would of either not gone into the private life of his character or gone farther then they did. A bit more development on that end one of been nice to see but doesn’t take away to much from the film. Other then that not to much to complain about with this film
If you like crime thrillers then you’ll thoroughly enjoy this movie. If you have no idea what you want to watch but want to watch something. This movie is a pretty safe bet.

A Dangerous Method - R - Review
This for me was a very enjoyable movie being a soon to be psych grad this movie for me was great. For those unaware the movie follows the time period around when Psychoanalysis was growing and the great minds of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud paths crossed for a brief time. The movie goes through that time period along with the relationship that Jung had with Sabina Spielrein who was a patient of his that later on would become one of the first women psychoanalysts. It’s interesting to see the dynamic between those three people. The movie had a great cast Keira Knightley who played Sabrina Spielrein, Michael Fassbender played Carl Jung, and Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud.
Partly because of a class I’ve been taking I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately on some of the history of psych and one of the areas we have gotten to is Sigmund Freud and this time period and from the film they did nail who these people were and what there attitudes were. So I can’t completely say for sure that what happened is truly what happened but what I will say is that they portrayed Freud and Jung very well and it truly one how those gentlemen were. The film was also very well filmed although I was caught up in the story it looked very well put together.
Although I understood trying to establish that Keira Knightley’s character had some issues. There were moments where it felt over the top and just I don’t want to say uncomfortable but it just felt forced. Although not a big thing there were moments that it distracted from what was going on because as I said it just felt forced.
If your into psych things then this might be one to check out. If your the type that likes to see Keira Knightley get a bit kinky then this one is for you. Other then that not that this is meant for a specific audience but unless you know who the people are and kind of are somewhat familiar with the terms then it may not be interesting to you.

Take Shelter - R - Review
This movie was an interesting one little predictable at times but overall it was an okay movie. It deals with a gentlemen who believes he might be coming down with the same thing his mother has so he starts to have some rather weird behaviors and like the title suggests he builds himself a shelter because of some of the things that he was seeing. The lead in this film is Michael Shannon who does an alright job and did well within the role he was given other then that not to excited about this film.
It was different to some extent so that was and wasn’t a half bad movie that is until like the last 10 minutes of the movie which I’ll get into in just a bit. Whoever did the special effects on the movie didn’t do that bad a job and the action in this movie wasn’t that bad either.
The last 10 minutes or so of this movie really kind of just had no point and really just screwed with the movie and not really in a clever way really. They tried to give you that twist at that end that kind of messes with your head and gets you going on my I didn’t think of it that way. This one just seemed pointless and the film already felt like it had ended and then someone decided to tack on this idea that he wasn’t the only one seeing these things and that in the end he was right. Really didn’t get that feeling and the ending felt more like an insult than a clever ending. The ending of this movie was really like one of those people that want to try to out smart you in the end by doing something pointless and really not that clever and the only one who saw it that way was the person who did it. That’s this movie.
Um I can’t really tell you who I’d suggest this to maybe people like me that are psych people and we dig movies that have weird endings with someone who’s messed up. But even then there are other movies out there that are a lot better then this one. Not to mention this movie is a tough one to explain to people without going on and ruining the film. As you can tell you really only know that some dude is screwed up and I hated the ending which pretty much sums up this movie.

The Woman in Black - PG13 - Review
This is the or is one of the first movie’s Daniel Radcliffe has done post Harry Potter. So did he do enough to out grow his Harry Potter namesake and make a name for himself. In short no not with this movie. This movie really wasn’t all that great. Felt like there was a lot of potential here but it just fell short in places. Radcliffe plays a father who lost his wife during the birth of his son and after a couple of years is trying to go out and work again. He’s sent out to do some work for the company he works for and turns out its one of those towns where outsiders aren’t welcomed and kids die.
Uh um it was a movie. Some of the characters were interesting. The story was okay but as I said before there was a lot of points where this could have been better and I imagine the story was alright just poor execution maybe.
Radcliffe plays a father in this one and they tried to age him a little but it didn’t work I just couldn’t get it through my head that he was a father. You try to forget that he’s Harry Potter but it never really leaves the back of your mind when you watch him in certain scenes. The movie doesn’t really pull you in at all. They try to scare you a few times but its something that would only really work either in the theater or if you were really into it and I was neither. They also tried to pull a Drag Me to Hell ending where you think they’ve done it and they solved what they needed to and in the end its just a big middle finger. That worked in that movie not this one because one they never really explained the woman in black enough and then they try to get her to disappear but you don’t get the feeling they did if anything its just really odd and confusing. So when you see the ending not truly sure what kind of ending they were going for but it did end the movie which is good.
This is definitely one I wouldn’t recommend to anyone or maybe just a very few. Wouldn’t really recommend this to anyone who loves Harry Potter because this was him trying to come out of the shadow of those movies and he didn’t and its far enough away at the same time its really not enjoyable. The only people I guess I’d recommend this to is if your a die hard Daniel Radcliffe fan and don’t think he can do wrong. Then you might like this. Other then that not one I’d recommend anytime soon.
