Skyfall - PG13 - Review
This is the latest installment to the James Bond series and what a beautiful installment it was. Daniel Craig returns to the role of James Bond and I don’t know about you but he is turning into my favorite actor for Bond. Skyfall was one of my favorites for 2012 for a few reasons.
The Good
This film is absolutely gorgeous. It was nice to see some nominations for cinematography. Personally I’d really love to see this pick up a win. Story was very interesting. Javier Bardem plays an excellent villain and for once it was a villain that doesn’t completely fall into one stereotype. The integration of the history of bond and having this clash between the new ways of doing things and the old way of doing things was great to see. The introducing of new and old characters. I’m going to stop there because if I said more it spoil major parts of the movies.
The Bad
Not that I’m against seeing it or have a problem with it but it is over 2 hours long. That doesn’t bother me but for some that might be a deal breaker. Well I can’t think of much of anything else and why be negative… moving on.
The Conclusion
With 50 years of Bond just being passed this was an excellent addition to the Bond films and definitely, at least in my mind, did the hype justice. Few words of warning. As I said before very long movie, but does have a good flow so it may not bother you. Probably not be a couples movie although if you do find some one willing to go with there a keeper. Skyfall releases on February 18th on DVD/Blu-ray and is on my list to pick up the day it comes out.

Dark Shadows - PG13 - Review
Formerly a TV series now a movie. Of course when you want something dark weird and kind of funny you call in Tim Burton and Johnny Depp because apparently they are the only ones that are willing to go there. This movie for me was neither good nor was it really bad. I can’t tell you exactly what this movie was for me but it was a movie I guess.
The Good
The movie looked visually interesting partly because that is Burton’s thing. Not the most interesting story in the world but it was a story I guess.
The Bad
Found the movie to be slow in some parts. I tried to pay attention and to get into the movie and all though I did at times there was other times where I checked out. In fact this is one or is the first movie that I almost fell a sleep and might of dosed off during the film. So not the most action filled movie either. Not one that kept me pumped with the dialogue either so.
The Conclusion
It’s another Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie don’t get me wrong always a fan of Depp and Burton but at the moment I’m bored with it. I think that’s why for me the movie wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. I might of just been bored by it not sure either way. If you are a fan of the Burton and Depp combo then here’s another one for you. I imagine if you loved the TV series you might enjoy this also. Other then that it’s really just a time waster and a boring one at that.

The Woman in Black - PG13 - Review
This is the or is one of the first movie’s Daniel Radcliffe has done post Harry Potter. So did he do enough to out grow his Harry Potter namesake and make a name for himself. In short no not with this movie. This movie really wasn’t all that great. Felt like there was a lot of potential here but it just fell short in places. Radcliffe plays a father who lost his wife during the birth of his son and after a couple of years is trying to go out and work again. He’s sent out to do some work for the company he works for and turns out its one of those towns where outsiders aren’t welcomed and kids die.
The Good
Uh um it was a movie. Some of the characters were interesting. The story was okay but as I said before there was a lot of points where this could have been better and I imagine the story was alright just poor execution maybe.
The Bad
Radcliffe plays a father in this one and they tried to age him a little but it didn’t work I just couldn’t get it through my head that he was a father. You try to forget that he’s Harry Potter but it never really leaves the back of your mind when you watch him in certain scenes. The movie doesn’t really pull you in at all. They try to scare you a few times but its something that would only really work either in the theater or if you were really into it and I was neither. They also tried to pull a Drag Me to Hell ending where you think they’ve done it and they solved what they needed to and in the end its just a big middle finger. That worked in that movie not this one because one they never really explained the woman in black enough and then they try to get her to disappear but you don’t get the feeling they did if anything its just really odd and confusing. So when you see the ending not truly sure what kind of ending they were going for but it did end the movie which is good.
The Conclusion
This is definitely one I wouldn’t recommend to anyone or maybe just a very few. Wouldn’t really recommend this to anyone who loves Harry Potter because this was him trying to come out of the shadow of those movies and he didn’t and its far enough away at the same time its really not enjoyable. The only people I guess I’d recommend this to is if your a die hard Daniel Radcliffe fan and don’t think he can do wrong. Then you might like this. Other then that not one I’d recommend anytime soon.

2012 Oscar Nominee
The Artist - PG13 - Review
This film is currently up for 10 Oscars including best picture. So far out of all the films I viewed on the list for best picture this year. I’m not sure if this movie belongs. It does it some categories. Cinematography and Music written for this movie it belongs in those categories not necessarily in the best motion picture category. Not for those not familiar this is a modern day silent movie and I have a feeling that for that reason alone that this movie got a lot of the recognition it did.
The Good
Now having said that I did somewhat like this movie to a point. The only problem is it took me until after the one hour point of this movie to actually start liking the movie and by that time the movie was over. The cinematography, music score, and the fashion design in this movie was excellent and whoever put those together does deserve the nomination for the film. This movie although I don’t think I would do it anytime soon I would sit down and watch it again. Maybe.
The Bad
Although I said I did eventually enjoy this movie the problem was that it took me over an hour to get to a point where I started to enjoy the movie. The other issue I have and this could be just me but I do other things while I watch movies for reviews I listen more than anything I do watch them but not as closely as I listen. The problem with this movie is I can’t do that with this movie I have to be glued to movie whether I want to or not. So its a movie that needs your undivided attention and in this world I just don’t know how many people could even if it was in a theater.
The Conclusion
If you like silent movies well then give this movie a shot. Although be warned your going to need about an hour and 40 minutes of uninterrupted time. It is a movie that you can watch in pieces but why would you. So not one for all people and still not seeing the best picture nomination for this film.

Moneyball - PG13 - Review
This film is currently up for 6 Oscars including best picture of the year. Which after watching the film I can see. The film stars Brad Pitt portraying Billy Beane who is the General Manager for the Oakland A’s and Jonah Hill who played Peter Brand sort of the brains behind Moneyball. The movie was based off of a book and was adapted for film. So most of this movie is based off of real life. It shows the start of what would be known as Moneyball in professional baseball. Interesting film kind of takes you through one season of the Oakland A’s where they first tried out using this strategy and Billy Beane’s past and how he came to be the GM for the Oakland A’s.
The Good
This film unlike most where you can only really get one watch out of it before you want to watch it again. Out of the Oscar best picture nominee’s that I’ve watched so far this is the only one that I’ve actually wanted to go back and watch again. I can’t tell you what it is exactly about the film that makes me want to watch it again but I do. Another good thing to note is that it’s a sports movie and most of the time the movie ends with the team winning the championship or whatever. This movie didn’t partly because it was based on real life. This was a definite nice change to a sports movie it did and it didn’t end well for the team and it was nice to have that.
The Bad
The beginning was a little frustrating for me. They start showing you two different stories. One in flashback form and the other in regular fashion. The problem is you spend almost the first 20 minutes of the film trying to figure out who’s who and why there showing this. Later on you realize why they showed it and they used it to show you where he was and how he got there. Little bit more detail would of been nice. They kept moving forward through the season but I at least never felt that they were moving forward in the movie so a better way to represent that games were being played and they were moving through the season. Although they did do it well in some spots.
The Conclusion
Although I did complain about some of the things in this film. Doesn’t deter me away from telling you that this is an excellent watch and as I said it has that re-watch ability factor. If you love baseball or sports movies at all go out and see this film. This is a definite guys movie there is a little family twist in there but not exactly a chick flick. So do yourself a favor and go out and see this film.

Troll 2 - PG13 - Review
Now to start off there is no Troll 1 and in fact if there is it has nothing to do with this film. Not to mention that this film was at one point number one in the bottom 100 films on IMDB. Now having said all that this is a film that needs to be watched by all. This movie comes under one of those its so bad its good films. It’s the small things for instance its called troll 2 and there not trolls there goblins. None of the actors in the film had acted a day in there lives before this film and boy does it show. The story is hilarious and I’m not even going to try to explain this movie to you because it’s just something that simply needs to be seen. From here on out though here’s where it gets tricky. Normally I’d give you the good and the bad. But that may not work for this one so the good will actually be whats bad, but awesome about this film. I guess.
The Good
If you watch this film pretty much the best thing to do is to remove brain and then watch. Don’t think into it don’t over analyze it. Just watch it for what it is. The movie has moments that you will sit there and go wtf because it won’t make sense at all and that’s what is great about the movie. Grandpa through out this movie is suppose to be some spirit ghost or something that’s suppose to come back and help his grandson and make sure that the family doesn’t turn into goblins. Funny thing is not so much ghost as much as in person and walking around and interacting with things. All the acting in the movie is very like run to this point, then run over to this point and then stop, look left. So very mechanical and unnatural but once again why its so funny and awesome. Not to mention that who knew the way to take down goblins would be bologna sandwiches.
The Conclusion
If you hanging out with some friends and your looking for a movie just to laugh at and not take seriously then watch this. If you need one of those movies to watch when your high or intoxicated watch this movie. Its not scary at all its hilarious and overly predictable to. If your a vegetarian at all this movie is for vegetarians to that might sound like an odd thing to say but once you see it you’ll understand.

Midnight in Paris - PG13 - Review
This was an interesting movie and all I have to really say is that it’s a Woody Allen movie and most of you won’t question that statement. This movie stars Owen Wilson being Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams. Story begins with Wilson a struggling writer with his fiance in Paris, no surprise there. Wilson plays an socially awkward person constantly explaining that he would be better off if had grown up in Paris when in the 20’s the golden era. So after an evening of wine tasting he finds himself out and lost in Paris. The clock strikes midnight and all of a sudden he finds himself in 1920’s Paris hanging with the likes of Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Picasso. Through these nightly adventures he gets his book back on track and finds out what he truly wants.
The Good
The story was excellent. This movie wasn’t one of those movies that used every other tool in the film manual to create a good movie. Just a really well done story. Now I know some find Wilson’s acting to be well annoying but for this movie it worked. I can’t say how much I enjoyed the Nostalgia theme they went with through the movie and the going back and forth between the two era’s of time. They did it nicely to it wasn’t obvious what was going on and they did it really suddenly and didn’t make a fanfare over the time switch. They also didn’t complicate the story with the issues of going  back and forth and people getting stuck or anything like that which some films get stuck on which was a nice change.
The Bad
I know the opening sequence of this movie bugged me. Now I know the random shots of Paris and that sort of beginning is Allen’s thing but whether they were doing on purpose or not all I could think was please steady the camera. You watch the opening sequence and you can tell the camera is rocking back and forth which just kind of gets irritating because its just small enough to annoy. Other then the camera work in the beginning, which only lasted for the first 5 min or so, the film was well done. And as I said I think they filmed it that way to set the feeling of the film which worked but steady the camera.
The Conclusion
Go see this film if you like comedy or romance or even fantasy. Take the time and see this either rent it or find it some where else. This is nominated for 2012 Oscar for best picture and usually I question there judgement but for this one I get it so. Do yourself a favor and try to see this film

Everybody’s Fine - PG13 - Review
This was a film that I didn’t know about. Flew under my radar and never saw it or was interested in seeing. Sounds like a good start to the review so far. Actually I found out about this film because it is one of the trailers on the Chasing Amy bluray. So I saw it and it looked like an interesting movie so I figured why not. The film is about a father who works his life to help out his four kids and put them in a position to be successful. His wife who had hidden the bad and given the good has past away and its time for this kids to come home for holiday but there all hiding a secret from him. So after they all bail on coming to the house for the holidays he decides to go visit them.
The Good
Once again it was another story that probably has been done before but it was a nice change from other movies. The cast for this movie was ridiculous Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, and Sam Rockwell. All did an excellent job and did there characters justice. Robert De Niro in his role as the father. You can’t help but enjoy and feel for his character which is generally signs that the character was written well for an acted well also. The end of this film is a tearjerker to got me because I’d watched it once and teared up a bit little did I know it’ll happen anytime you watch the film so all these things including the tears were good.
The Bad
Can’t think of very much that I didn’t like about the film some of the people he runs into on his travels were irritating but I’m sure they were written that way so I can’t exactly make that a bad thing.
The Conclusion
This is one that if you have a chance to watch it, watch it. You might be able to Netflix it or rent it somewhere but if your looking for a drama with some adventure this is one to look into. Then you can decide if your adding it to your collection.

Limitless - PG13 - Review
This was yet another one of those movies that I’ve always meant to see and just never got to it or just completely forgot about it. That is until it hit Netflix. I saw it on there and I added it to my queue with the idea that I’d watch it. Still didn’t happen for sometime. This was probably for 2 reasons one just haven’t had time two this is one of those movies that after watching the commercial you didn’t know whether this was going to be really good or just really bad. Turns out that this movie was actually really good. The movie stars Bradley Cooper as a down and out writer trying to get his book of the ground. Runs into an old friend from the pass gives him this new synthetic drug and all of a sudden the world is open to him. Few other familiar faces in this film, Robert De Niro who plays a very De Niro role in this and Abbie Cornish who plays the on again off again girlfriend.
The Good
For once this story line felt fresh although there have been plenty of movies out there like this. This one at least felt fresh. The movie kept moving there didn’t feel as if there was any down time in this film so there was that slow point in the movie. All though it wasn’t so fast that you felt like you needed to catch your breath to catch up with what was going on. The camera work in this film was nice to there was hardly if any cg in this movie and anytime they wanted to give you the idea of something they used camera movement instead of cg and I could appreciate that with the amount of cg in films lately. The other part I loved about this film and what kind of sold this movie for me was the ending. So often we see that the person who’s on the drugs ends up dead or in jail. This time the guy on drugs succeeds and gets off of it and actually gets something from them and screwing over one of the other characters in the process. This ending sold this movie for me it was nice to see the movie end that way rather then what you always see.
The Bad
There’s one seen where it was a little out there and all’s I have to say is blood drinking. It happened and it was a little weird but give the writers credit I didn’t see that coming until it happened. There was a few parts where you might of wanted a little more detail but other then that it wasn’t really needed to get through the movie so can’t really complain to much about that.
The Conclusion
If your looking for that action flick where you don’t have to put to much thought into it then watch this film. It doesn’t require you to be really heavily involved to know whats going on. Not one I’d necessarily go out and buy but one that is at least worth the rent to watch then decide.

Cowboys & Aliens - PG13 - Review
Well as the title suggests there cowboys and there are aliens in this movie do I need to go any farther into the plot. No because they didn’t seem to get into it either. I don’t think you can blame the cast on this one with veterans like Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. For what feels like one of the first times in writing the reviews I’m not sure I have much of a complaint with the cast.
The Good
Excellent cast some that have been heavy hitters in Hollywood and others that are young Hollywood waiting to take the world by storm and of course James Bond. Unfortunately though this is where the good ends and the bad begins.
The Bad
My first thought and only thought through this entire movie was who the hell decided to put aliens into this half way descent western. They had all the makings for the perfect western. The cast was there. So my question is why ruin it by putting aliens into it. It’s sad that this movie could of been so much better if they would of just pulled the aliens out and come up with some other idea for the antagonist in the film. It annoys so much. I don’t even have another gripe about this film. Other then there are fricken aliens in it what were they thinking?
The Conclusion
This I can’t say that I would tell you to rush out and rent or see. If your a fan of Olivia Wilde or Daniel Craig then maybe go see it just so you can say you’ve seen everything that they are in. Other then that not one I’m going to suggest you to rush out and see.
